Our Chiropractors will develop a customised program for your treatment and rehabilitation without the need for an x-ray.
Overview
What is chiropractic care?
Chiropractic care involves the examination, treatment and rehabilitation of musculoskeletal injuries that can occur anywhere from the workplace, to the sports field, to home. Chiropractors are best known for adjustments (however do incorporate other techniques) of the joints in the body which are safe and effective for injuries.
What can chiropractors treat?
PEAK Chiropractors are trained to treat a wide variety of musculoskeletal conditions with an array of different techniques.
Our Brisbane Chiropractic team use non-surgical intervention to help reduce discomfort as well as educate and help prevent recurrence of injuries by use of exercise prescription and advice, ergonomics and referral to other health practitioners if required.
Chiropractic is a popular treatment option for conditions such as:
Migraine/Headaches
Our Brisbane Chiropractors are trained to help reduce discomfort and symptoms associated with Migraines/Headaches. Our Chiropractors will at first rule out any symptoms which may require a referral to a GP. If these symptoms are ruled out, our Chiropractors may use techniques including spinal manipulative therapy which may help reduce headache and migraine symptoms. There are a wide variety of exercises which can help actively reduce this discomfort and our Chiropractors will help guide you through these to address your specific discomfort.
Sciatica Pain
Sciatic pain affects a large amount of the population and depending on your age, previous medical history and general state of your health will play a major part in helping with this.
Sciatica can be an issue that if left untreated can affect your everyday life, it is expected that 5-10% of the population will have sciatica annually.
Our Chiropractors are highly trained to help manage this discomfort and provide you with the necessary tools to help manage this discomfort away from the clinic as well.
Neck Pain
Neck pain is an extremely common condition that our Chiropractors treat on a daily basis at both our Hawthorne and New Farm clinic. We suffer neck pain for a range of reasons, the majority of these are not dangerous to our long term health. Our Chiropractors will provide a detailed examination to properly assess your neck pain. PEAK Chiropractors use soft tissue techniques, dry needling and spinal manipulative therapy to help treat the pain. There is a large variety of exercises which can help actively reduce this discomfort and our Chiropractors will guide you through these to address your specific discomfort.
Hamstring Injury
One of the most common injuries in sport is a hamstring injury. Hamstring injuries are often seen in sports requiring high acceleration movements such as in AFL, soccer or rugby.
There are a number of factors that contribute to a hamstring injury that require a detailed assessment to define an accurate diagnosis and formulate a personalised comprehensive management plan to help you through this injury.
Low back pain, hip problems, or even previous ankle sprains may contribute to your hamstring injury and all need to be considered when rehabilitating this injury. It is common for strengthening exercises to be prescribed to address these areas during your rehabilitation. Immediately commencing rehabilitation after injury will speed up your recovery. In a 2017 study by Bayer et al, compared commencing rehab at 2 days post injury versus 9 days, and found that those starting rehab 1 week earlier, returned to their sport a staggering 3 weeks earlier.
Low Back Pain
Every low back episode is unique, and treatment should be too. Our Chiropractors work to reduce discomfort as soon as possible and get you back to your work, sporting and life commitments in the shortest time frame possible. PEAK Chiropractors have a strong emphasis on your spine health and use a wide variety of techniques to help with your pain. Not all techniques are applicable depending on your age, pain level and type of low back pain. There is not a ‘one size fits all’ approach and a thorough examination will be performed prior to treatment.
Whiplash
Whiplash is an injury that can be a direct result from motor vehicle accidents and caused by the action of either acceleration-deceleration or deceleration-acceleration of our head movement. A common misconception of this injury is that you have to be travelling at a fast speed for this to occur, you don’t, and this can be an unfortunate reason as to why many people do not seek help for their neck pain. Whiplash can occur not only from driving but on the sports field and all many avenues in day to day activities. Whiplash can also often mean that concussion has occurred and therefore a thorough examination will take place prior to any treatment. Our Chiropractors are highly skilled in assessing, treating and rehabilitating all aspects of whiplash.
Wry Neck
A wry neck is an extremely common complaint that can affect a lot of people from the community. How this comes about can often be from incidental causes, leaving us with a stiff and painful neck that limits our range of motion. Wry necks usually are not concerning for your long term health, however will be assessed thoroughly before proceeding with any treatment. There are a wide variety of treatments for this and we will find one which compliments your discomfort.
Disc Protrusion/Bulge
Between each vertebrae is a disc that provides stability, allows it to move and absorb shock to the body. The two parts of a disc are the tough outer layer (the ‘annulus fibrosis’) and the soft gel-like substance (the ‘nucleus pulposis’) contained within this. A disc protrusion is where the inner layer of the disc protrudes, but is contained within the outer layer. This can then lead to pain due to the increased pressure on the nerve surrounding this. Depending on the size of the protrusion and location, symptoms can range from mild to severe. It is important to consider that some people do not have symptoms at all with a protrusion also. Depending on these factors, our Chiropractors will help guide you through the appropriate hands on treatment that is safe and unique for every individual. Rehabilitation of the affected area will be given to help provide long term relief for the pain.

Chiropractic can sometimes be covered by Medicare via an EPC (enhanced primary care plan) that is acquired from a General Practitioner for chronic conditions. Please see your GP to see if you are eligible for this. This plan can provide up to five appointments that attract a Medicare rebate.
Our Chiropractors will only perform treatment if it is safe to do so, and are able to determine this through our extensive physical examination. There is a small percentage of our athletes who may report minor adverse effects such as muscle soreness. There are extremely rare occurrences where serious adverse effects have occurred from spinal manipulation from Chiropractors.
Herniated discs, ‘pinched’ discs, ‘slipped’ discs may need hands on treatment from a Chiropractor to help ease the discomfort that this can cause. Our Chiropractors will also help you with your rehabilitation for the affected area which may be of benefit to help you with your pain.
No, you are welcome to book an appointment with our Chiropractors at any time, a Doctors referral is not required.
There is no specific answer to this question, and we are proud to say that we do not follow any treatment recipes. Like each athlete we treat, their complaint is unique and depending on this will depend on how many sessions. There may be times when more active (ie – the athlete can do the rehabilitation themselves) or passive (the Chiropractor will perform treatment) treatment is appropriate.
Our Chiropractors will perform manual therapy treatment in the first session meeting you. Unless specifically requested there are no requirements for any x-rays taken and no ‘findings appointments’. We will help you with your pain in the first appointment seeing you!
